Rabies Facts

There is no cure for rabies, but it is 100 percent preventable through prompt, appropriate medical care. Every year hundreds of South Carolinians must undergo preventive treatment for rabies due to exposure to a rabid or suspected

rabid animal. Although the cost varies, post-exposure treatment typically exceeds $8,000 per person. For information about rabies do’s and don’ts plus rabies statistics, visit www.rabies.sc.gov

SC Tax Deadlines Moved to June 1

Gov. Henry McMaster announced via Executive Order on Tuesday afternoon that SC tax filing deadlines are moved to June 1. The South Carolina Department of Revenue then released an Information Letter providing filing and payment relief to those impacted by COVID-19 in South Carolina. The tax relief postpones tax filing and payment deadlines starting on April 1, 2020. Affected individuals and businesses will have until June 1, 2020 to file and pay taxes for returns that are due between April 1 and June 1, 2020. Visit https://dor.sc.gov/ for more.

Veterinary Summer Workover (VSW)

The South Carolina Association of Veterinarians (SCAV) has introduced the Veterinary Summer Workover (VSW) program for veterinary students.  Registration is free. VSW offers summer internship to second and third year veterinary students in and out of the state of South Carolina. While SCAV will facilitate the program, students will contact practitioners/clinics directly to apply for a position, with the outcome entirely up to the engaging party. The interns will be paid a stipend for their work.

Practitioners and clinics involved will have a chance to mentor the students as well as find good employees for their practices. Students on the other hand will have the opportunity to complement their educational pursuits with practical work, build relationships, network, earn while they learn, as well as improve animal health. The link below is a list of clinics involved in this program. Please check it regularly for updates. List of Clinics
